End of mid term break

One week oozes past just like that and it marks the end of the mid term break. Time seems to be seeping away little by little bit, and while you might not be conscious of it all the time, it is really happening.

I manage to complete my HR reflection paper in this week. It is really a torturous process as I am not that good in writing reflection paper. It is not like blogging where you can just crap and crap. It has got to have substance. And I doubt the quality of my paper. Anyway, I am not going to think about it too much.

Was talking to Weeli on the train the other day and he asked me if I am worried that it is our last year already and we are still single. Before I continue, I just wanna to say that the reason why I am talking about this is because people asked me to write interesting stuffs rather than those boring work related nonsensical useless crap which will be just a waste of your precious time.

So I thought this might be an interesting topic to write about.

It has been ages since I broke up about 2 years ago? I can't remember seriously. Life is good when you are single. You have more time for yourself, you spend less and have less worries and responsibilities. However, one should not be single for too long. Reason? You might forget how to love.

So what is love?

Love is the feeling you get when you meet the right person.
Love is the attachment that results from deeply appreciating another's goodness.

I told Weeli that true love is hard to find. Eh don't laugh. You don't agree with me?
Love is blind but somehow it always seem to find its way in the dark.
Haha, that's a bit corny I know. It is meant to be a joke.

Back to the topic, I think love is like a mischievous kid. When you are trying so hard to find it, it might just decide to hide at one corner and look at you frantically searching for itself. And when you are about to give up, it will appear right before you giving you that smiley face. Of course, sometimes you take a longer time to find it. But persevere and you will make it appear ultimately.

So what's my strategy? Hmm maybe stand at a prominent high point where lots of people can see me and I can have a far away view? This way it is easier to sieve out that special one from the crowd.

And who knows, you might be the special one of another person looking up at you in awe from the corner of the street.

Complexity

Was chatting with flo today on msn and she throws me this sentence which I find quite meaningful:

People are unpredictable, just as life is, sometimes good people do evil things, crazy people surprises us, silly people do things for no reason, and we can even learn things from the mad.

True enough, I find it harder to understand people and things now. Are we so complicated?

Flo says we are all complex beings.
I told her people can be simple minded.
She replies that that doesn't mean people are anywhere less complex.
I concluded that being simple minded does not constitute to bringing down the overall complexity of a person. It is like infinity minus 100 is still infinity.

So much so for my blog's title: A simple life, A simple me.

Mid Autumn Festival

Whatever you like to call it. Mooncake festival or Mid Autumn festival or even Yue Bing Jie.

When I was really really young, I used to buy those battery operated lanterns. Because it is too bright during the day, me and my brothers would arrange to wake up during the middle of the night to just play with the lanterns. Walking around the house in the dark with the lantern on seems so much fun. Some years I would cry because I failed to wake up and miss the night of fun.

When I was slightly older, I liked to go to the playground with my friends to play with candles. Each of us will have one big box of candles and we will just find one spot to light them up and form different shapes and letters. Seeing them melt into wax is such a joyous act to us at that time.

When I get even older, sometimes I would arrange with some friends to go to the park to see people play with candles and carry lanterns. I think I spend two years of mid autumn festival at soen's house where the group of us have so much fun over the lantern competition and stuffs like that.

Today is mid autumn again.

Don't seem to have the mood this year round.

Hope to be able to spend it with my beloved one the next year.

Sentosa

I just changed my laptop skin from nothing to this:

I think I mention this before. Now, I get occasional stares at my laptop when I am in school. Seems like laptop skin is not that common as yet.

Went sentosa yesterday afternoon with yin hong and tong dee. Td was late and so me and yh had to play dai dee for a while first.

After beating yh 10 - 7, we decided to go roaming around the beach to look for babes and settle down to tan ourselves. After walking for a few minutes, we chance upon jasmine(aj badminton) and her friend. Both of them had just finished sun tanning and were about to leave to shower. We decided to borrow their mats and look after their stuffs for them while they go for a shower.

Td came soon after and the 3 of us combine the two mats to sun tan. Yes, I know it is a bit gay. But we are all straight ok.

Some pictures:

Soon Christine and her SIA colleagues arrived at Cafe del mar. Met up with a few of them and played a bit of cards. Then jasmine and her friend returned and it become a big reunion for all of us because they all know each other. What a small world.

Darkness soon follow and the three of us stayed with christine for a little while more before we went off to Vivo for dinner.

Sentosa has definitely changed a lot since the last time I visited it. The mono-rail is quite cool. You must try it. A lot of activities and shops have since been set up. It is worth a day to go down and check it out.

After dinner, me and td decided to go seng kang to chill and wait for andy. Td brought some beer and peanuts. We got some ice from 7-11 and this is what we get:

Each of us finished 3 cans before andy finally sms us to say he is not coming. What a great friend. But I am too full and tired to bother about it.

Went home after that and knock out.

Time

I close my eyes, recalling the things that I have done for the day. Images flash past my mind. Nothing constructive done. I tell myself make full use of the next day, don't let it slip past just like that.

Before I knew it, the next day has passed and the cycle continues...

Sometimes I asked myself what have I accomplished so far in life? I have no answer to that. I yearn for the day I can proudly say to myself that I have finally done something worth mentioning.

Time, the only thing that wait for no one.

Time, it never slow down but only keep increasing its pace.

Time, how I wish I can conquer you.

Lazy Sunday

I am supposed to go play soccer this morning, but due to the rain, have decided otherwise in the end. In fact, this Sunday seems a bit lazy to me. Never really do much. Watched a movie though, grabbed from yw yesterday night when I went to his house to watch soccer.

Saw the movie "A Walk to remember", written by Nicolas Sparks. Read this book a few years back and the movie was as touching as the book, though not better. Am quite a fan of his and have read almost all his books.

My mp3 library is in a mess now. Took lots of songs from a few friends and now they are all jumbled up in my hard disk drive. Going to be a real pain if I am going to organise all of them. Argh... going to procrastinate about this.

End off with a song by Howie Day, Collide:

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you
Yeah

I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide

I'm quiet, you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide

Don't stop here
I lost my place
I'm close behind

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide

Finally find
You and I collide

You finally find
You and I collide

Boarding A Bus

My blogging frequency seems to drop a little for the past week. I have been busy dating. Kidding. I mean studying. Hey, it rhymes.

All right, the truth is FYP is keeping me a little occupied.

Have you ever notice that whenever you board a bus or mrt, you tend to take a certain set of actions and make similar decisions. What do I mean by this?

Some people call this "scripting", as in you behave as if you are an actor or actress and act according to the script. Take the example of boarding a bus. You see, I take mrt and bus to school almost everyday. Like I told jo, I travel from Yishun to NUS almost every weekday. No joke k!

Due to the high frequency of using public transport, I am able to conclude some of my actions, after observing them in my mind when I do my occasional reflections, that actually I do follow a certain pattern. Just take the action of choosing the seats available to me per se, I follow a kind of flow chart every time I board a bus.

1. Look around for empty double seats. (Well, I don't want to squeeze with anyone if possible.)

2. If there are a lot of empty double seats around, take the one nearer the exit. (Obviously I want to alight as soon as possible right? I am nearly just on time for most of my lectures.)

3.If there are no empty double seats near the exit, take any empty double seats. (Unless, the only option I have is right at the back of the bus, then I will go to step 4.)

4. Look for single seats. (Now, I am assuming all double seats are taken up.)

5. Look for single seats with ladies beside them. (Wait, don't label me as a sex pervert or anything similar yet. Listen to my explanation. It is because ladies usually take lesser space so I don't have to cramp with some big size fellow right? I am sure you know me well enough to know I am not that kind of person...)

6. Let says there are a few single seats with gals sitting beside them, so which will I choose? I will choose to sit with the prettier ones obviously. (Ok, you can scold me now, but don't forget I am human as well.... just put yourself in my shoes can??)

7. If there are no singles seats with gals sitting beside them, I will just have to settle with the guys. And I am sure you can guess, I will go for the smaller size guys, for reason I have already mention.

You see all these happen in my mind within a few seconds upon boarding the bus. Subconsciously, I am following a "script" written entirely by me.

This "scripting" phenomenal is very common. Just take a look at the waiter or waitress serving you at macdonalds' counter. The way they take order is some sort of scripted. You might not know yourself but we are all following a certain "script" at some point in our life for various reasons. Maybe your mum's nagging is scripted too. Worth an investigation?

All of us can act...

Any nominations for Oscar Awards?

I and ME

It has been a few days since I blogged. I wanted to write something not so boring, hence this delay. As usual, life is the same for me. My free days now are being converted to doing FYP. However, the work load is still manageable so far. All right, enough of these boring stuffs, as I have said I wanna talk about something more interesting, as least from my point of view, not so sure if you would agree though.

Now, "I" and "ME". What's the difference?

Do you know that there exist a "I" and "ME" within all of us? "I" is the spontaneous aspect of oneself while "ME" is the social aspect of the individual. It is a bit hard to understand at first. Let just say "I" may be the person who likes to talk and move around a lot and simply can't stay still in a classroom. "ME" on the other hand is the same person, but due to socialization, manage to remain quite stationary during the lesson because it has always been the norm to pay attention and not disrupt the class.

Now, I hope you have a clearer picture of this concept of "I" and "ME". It is all right if you don't. I am not very sure of it myself too. Anyway, "I" almost always give in to "ME". And therefore what you portray to the others is often the "ME" of you.

For more you might like to click here. It is an article by GH Mead.

Let me quote some paragraphs:

Recognizing that the self can not appear in consciousness as an "I," that it is always an object, i.e., a "me," I wish to suggest an answer to the question, What is involved in the self being an object? The first answer may be that an object involves a subject. Stated in other words, that a "me" is inconceivable without an "I. " And to this reply must be made that such an "I" is a presupposition, but never a presentation of conscious experience, for the moment it is presented it has passed into the objective case, presuming, if you like, an "I" that observes -- but an "I" that can disclose himself only by ceasing to be the subject for whom the object "me" exists.

On the other hand, the stuff that goes to make up the "me" whom the "I" addresses and whom he observes, is the experience which is induced by this action of the "I." If the "I" speaks, the "me" hears. If the "I" strikes, the "me" feels the blow. Here again the "me" consciousness is of the same character as that which arises from the action of the other upon him. That is, it is only as the individual finds himself acting with reference to himself as he acts towards others, that he becomes a subject to himself rather than an object, and only as he is affected by his own social conduct in the manner in which he is affected by that of others, that he becomes an object to his own social conduct.

Why do I write about such thing here? Well, I have the next few weeks to go and figure this concept out because it is one of my project. Since it is so interesting, I might as well share it here.

And also, I don't know what to blog about too. Haha.

6 Weird Things About Me

I have been tagged by jo, and though I have already written a post on it, I thought maybe I will write again so as not to disappoint anyone.

It is a game where you are suppose to write 6 weird things about yourself and tag a few others to do the same. I will not tag anyone here but just share a bit about myself here.

1. I like to travel alone, to and back school, going to places to meet people etc.

2. I used to be very paranoid about not turning off the taps in my house, and would often go back and check the taps again.

3. I like to look at the feet of other people.

4. I am a perfectionist. Not really weird but at least different?

5. I cannot understand my decisions sometimes. Don't you think that's weird?

6. I like to day dream.

Not a lot to say, but a little here and there. Hopefully these will not turn you off.

W960

I can't wait to see this phone in Singapore.

Click 1 and 2 for more.

I think it is going to be a great phone for its class.

Touch screen with stylus, 3.2M camera with auto focus, symbian OS, handwriting recognition software, and a freaking 8GB internal memory!

Walkman phone with a great camera. Awesome.

I am quite sure it is going to cost a lot. Let just see the price first and the people's review. So far it has been good. Heard it is going to hit the Asia market end of the year maybe Nov. Anticipating.

If you are into 5M camera, SE is going to come up with one soon:K850i. Click here for more.

Well, my phone certainly serve me well. Maybe next year then I will change it.

SEOUL

SEOUL: South Korea Monday told 19 former hostages to pay some of the costs of their rescue from Afghanistan's Taliban, amid increasing criticism of the ill-fated trip by the Christian aid workers. Click here for more.

SEOUL: Foreign minister Song Min-Soon said on Saturday that South Korea had no choice about negotiating with Afghanistan's Taliban with the lives of 19 hostages at stake. Click here for more.

Now, no one knows, other than maybe the top persons in SEOUL, whether there is any monetary deal between the Taliban and South Korea. Well, if money is really involved, then I am afraid the Taliban is going to have lots of cash to do what they feel is right. In the end, this whole cycle might just repeat itself and who knows when this is going to end?

I wonder what Singapore will do if it is in SEOUL's shoes. Probably not going to give in to the Taliban's demands but try to achieve a win win situation. But what is a win win situation? There is none to begin with.

The Talibans are going to win no matter what in this case, it is just a matter of how much. And it is therefore, for people to judge, just how much loss we can minimise. Whatever is the decision, there is bound to be criticisms.

Now, what has the world become?

Hairspray

Think it is time for me to blog a bit. Let me see.. just watched "Hairspray" with my internship friends. For more of the movie click here. Well, I must admit the name of the film and the poster doesn't really appeal me. However, Weili told me it is a really nice show so I decided to give it a try. And sure enough, it really impresses me a lot. A little bit on the movie by someone who wrote:

'Hairpsray' is about tolerance, integration and acceptance of others. The film uses the racial divide between blacks and whites but the subtext of the film is Heterosexuals and Homosexuals. 'Hairspray' viciously lampoons bigots and reserves specific devastation for Ultra-conservative religious zealots, figures of authority and WASPs. The satire is white hot (Alison Janney steals every scene she is in), the music catchy, the movie's spirit is irreverent.

There are lots of songs in this movie, so you are going to enjoy it if you like movie like High School Musical. There is meaning to the show and it uses musical drama kind of way to lead you into the plot. Nicely done. Definitely worth watching.

Side track a bit, I wanna apologise to a few people, gals actually. I don't want to mention names here. Just thought of putting it here. I don't think they will know I am referring to them if they are reading this. Doesn't matter anyway.

All right, good night folks.
