In this sophisticated world, one often finds oneself in a struggle with power, fame, money, attention and many other unnecessary entities of life. I seek to find a simple life, uncomplicated yet meaningful. A lot more important elements of life are waiting to be discovered. Live your life to the fullest.

Lucky

I have never been lucky in lucky draw before. But I got a pleasant surprise when they send me a letter telling me that I have won myself a $20 bodynits voucher. Cheers. Went down to collect this today:

I am not kidding this time.

Lucky.

Breakthrough

Went for Th Dance production, Breakthrough. I think is is better than last year's. At least there is a decent stage for them to perform. Last year's was at some club. Too dark, too small, too little.

Sorry, no photos. But there were really a lot of babes and hunks there.

Tay Ping Hui was there too. He is an alumni of TH. Stayed there many many years ago. I was quite surprised to see him there. He is really good looking. Tall and well built. How envy. Jo says he might be a gay. Anyone can verify that?

Anyway, nothing much to update here.

Losing money in Poker though. Damnit.

Amazing Race

Went for the Amazing Race organised by the CSC club of NUS today. We got 13th place out of a total of 30 teams. Not too bad huh.

I have been wanting to do some voluntary work and finally I got my chance. Every Friday night, I would go to the Yishun Student Centre and help some kids in their learning. Though it is a very simple task, I find it very meaningful.

Today's Amazing Race is also a fund raising event. We had fun I would say.

Karin, Yu Shan, De Rui, Ch and me.

Well done guys.

caffeine

I don't really like drinking coffee, especially those 3-in-1 kind. They make me feel uncomfortable all day. Maybe it is the caffeine. I like kopi-O though, don't know why. Drank it since young perhaps.

I drank a cup of ice coffee just now when I was in school. Was falling asleep in lecture so I thought it would be good to pop down a can. Now, I am still feeling the effect. Yucks.

Caffeine is like motivation that keeps one going in life.

How nice it would be if every time you run low in motivation, all you need to do is go to the vending machine, throw in a few coins, and wahla... out comes motivation. Cool isn't it?

It is tough hanging on...

Hanging on to past experiences.
Hanging on to unrealizable dreams.
Hanging on to your principles.
Hanging on to faith and hope.

It is easier to let go...

Letting go of all burdens.
Letting go of all responsibilities.
Letting go of all ideals.
Letting go of all worries.

Is it that tough and that easy?

Seriously, I don't know what I am talking about. Decipher yourself please.

The cryptology of life huh.

What is a Date?

Hi all, how has your week been? Mine was great, but I shall not pour them all out here as I think it is going to bore you to death. As much as I try, I keep my entries short and sweet. I think if an entry is too long, people tend to just scan through what you have written. All right, I admit I am guilty of this, but if the topic is interesting then I will read them all carefully and throughly.

Now, today I feel like talking about Dates.

It is appropriate as V day just passed. So what is a Date?

Taken from a website: an appointment to meet at a specified time; especially : a social engagement between two persons that often has a romantic character.

Now, would you consider going out alone with a friend of the opposite gender a Date? I think it depends on the motive/s. If it involves at least trying to know the person better it is consider a Date. And when I say "knowing the person better", I mean finding out if the person suits you, and not just friends catching up on good old times.

The problem arises when the two persons involved have different interpretation of the "meeting up". This can be misleading, and I can safely say that usually it is the guys who are the culprits.

Most of my friends who read my blog are females, I think. But the above was not written so as not to incur the wrath of the females. We all know how gals react over such tiny stuffs. Guys are more magnanimous.

All right, my reasoning being the fact that guys have the "rather kill the wrong than miss the right" mentality, while gals are usually more emotional. Girls: Would you go out with someone you have totally no interest in? Alone, and you know the person is interested in you. I may be wrong. Different people have different threshold. The threshold which will "motivate" you to go out on a Date with the person.

And I think it has something to do with the culture here. People stereotype easily.

They think that someone who asked them out must be in love with them or something. Oh come on. Where has the platonic friendship gone to? And even so, all relationships started off with friendship. So people, especially gals, don't strike off the person's name from your "Potential-to-be-bfs/gfs-List", at least not so soon yea?

Then what do you do on your first Date?

Frankly speaking, there are nothing much to do in Singapore. I would say movies are the best bet you can count on, especially on the first Date. Minimal interaction, so both will not feel too awkward. If things are going well, a dinner following that would be nice. Seriously, if you ask me, I think if the girl (speaking from my context) would agree to go out with you for dinner over movie, it is a good sign. She is more than willing to interact with you as you have to converse during the meal right. Maximum interaction, maximum potential. So my thoughts: just ask the gal out for a meal or drink. Don't waste money and time on movies or things which are not going to get you much interaction.

Someone, I shall not disclose who, asked me this after we went out together.

She: "What do you define as a successful date?"
Me: "When everyone is happy and we talk a lot?" (Something like that, I forgot what I said exactly.)
She: "Simple, when both looks forward to the next one."

Forget what I have wrote till now if it is going to cause you to think really hard about whether to go out with someone the next time.

I am just spouting nonsense.

V Day 2008

Hi all, it is V Day 2008 once again.

Remember Xiao Xin? He asked me to write an entry last year this time if you still remember him. Well, I don't know where he is now. Probably hiding in some corner sulking. I heard he is still single this year. Damn lousy la. No date again this year. But lucky for me, I don't have to write anything for him.

Just came back from a chill out session with td, andy and his friend hazel. Was a fun chat. I guess we are all lonely souls trying to find comfort amidst the feeling of wanting to be loved or love.

V Day is friendship day. It is crap. It is just to comfort yourself that you have no date and need to spend time with friends.

Now, is it you or the society norm you cannot get pass?

Oops. Did I just went out with my friends?

Shuai Dai Le

I had a late class today. Went to the coffee shop behind Yishun mrt to pack my dinner. Something happened when I was there.

It happened before and so I was not too surprise.

Not sure if it is just me or because I was buying dinner (mixed vegetables rice).

Those staying in Yishun can help me go verify.

I swear I heard the stall owner asked me: "Shuai4 Ge1, what you want?"

Sex for TV?

A very Happy CNY to all. Nothing much to update. Just share with you this interesting news.

LONDON (Reuters) - Nearly half of British men surveyed would give up sex for six months in return for a 50-inch plasma TV, a survey -- perhaps unsurprisingly carried out for a firm selling televisions -- said on Friday.

Electrical retailer Comet surveyed 2,000 Britons, asking them what they would give up for a large television, one of the latest consumer "must-haves".

The firm found 47 percent of men would give up sex for half a year, compared to just over a third of women.

"It seems that size really does matter more for men than women," the firm said.

A quarter of people said they would give up smoking, with roughly the same proportion willing to give up chocolate.

A Year Coming to An End

This will most likely be my last post. For this lunar year I mean. I hope you guys like the new blog skin. Alice complained to me about the alignment being too left. Well, it is meant to be this way, so just shift your focus slightly to the left.

I guess a blog is a good way to keep track of your past events.

So what has happened for the past year in my life?

Well a quick look at my archives give rises to the following:

I changed my blog address from the previous one to this current one after a heart breaking relationship. Kidding. Well I guess it is good to start anew then.

First half of the year was the time I stayed in hall. It was quite an experience though I do not have the energy and enthusiasm as the youngsters. Nonetheless, I enjoyed my stay there. I would have tried for another sem if not for my hospitalisation back in Nov. Actually I didn't want my parents to worry too much about me and I guess by staying home I could spend more time with them. The hall experience definitely enriched my life. Got to know some great pals like jo, ks, huien, pin, marie, sueann etc. I think there are more but these are the ones I meet up more often.

I went for my first Mayday concert and my first friend's ROM. No prize for guessing who that person is.

I quite enjoy doing EE3001. We just had an gathering yesterday. Thanks to Sue Yue for organising. I am still the boss, as confirmed by winning the game: I am Boss. Oh fyi, we went to minds cafe at boat quay. Quite cosy, better than the one at dhorby ghaut.

Then there is the internship at DSI. Haha, good life there except for the constant long duration in the clean room. But I must say it helped me in my fyp. Winsome ensured we all get our pay on time. Thanks if you are reading this. And of course to the friends in DSI: bl, sy, lippy, phone, kelvin, ty, pf and a lot more. Cheers.

Second half of the year was pretty quiet other than that incident which I have discussed so much and shall not dwell more on it here.

Pig year is full of ups and downs for me. Come on, which year isn't.

Let's us hope the mighty mouse year will be a year of more ups and downs for all.

I wish all good health and big money big money!
